Well, yesterday evening, I went to Detox Flow class and I am very glad I did. The teacher for this class was Bobby and on walking into the studio, there is a calming presence about her that lets you feel relaxed and at ease, and I hadn't started the class yet! Throughout the class, Bobby kept reminding us that it is not about what the person on the mat next to you is doing, but what you and your breath is doing. She told us "your breath is your anchor" and I really liked this. In a regular gym class, I have often tried to 'keep up with' or 'match' what the people around are doing, but this was not like that, and most of the class, you have your eyes closed anyway. I honestly felt like I was in there on my own; listening to Bobby guide me through the class, I forgot there was anyone else in the studio. Bobby's voice has that type of tone and rhythm to it and I found it encouraged me and guided me in the class, without sounding like I was 'in a class'.
The class was done in a warmer temperature, which for me was wonderful as I certainly miss the heat from living in the Bahamas! The poses and breathing exercises felt great, they focused on cleansing the blood, getting the lymphatic system moving and cleansing the digestive system. Everyone moved at their own pace and I certainly left this class feeling very relaxed and at ease with myself, and the world. I did find my mind wandering at times, I think I need to work on anchoring this! But I am hoping this will come with time and practice.
I think for me, one of the 'take home messages' was when Bobby talked about being non-judgmental and giving oneself time to relax, great advice that I hope to carry on throughout my week. I do think I can have some judgmental moments, and I certainly don't want to be, so I will make a conscious effort this week to notice if I do this, and work on being non-judgmental.
Well, this evening I will be joining in on another class, and I am looking forward to this too!
Relax and enjoy your day! Kate
